Measurement tips

  • Prevent skin irritation

    We use special electrodes that are gentle on the skin. Make sure your skin is completely dry before applying the electrodes. If you still experience skin irritation, move the electrode position around a little on different days.

  • Not waterproof

    Wear the device during exercising but make sure to detach the device when swimming, showering and taking a bath or sauna etc. The recording continues automatically when you re-attach the device.

  • Fitness walk

    A good level of fitness has widespread benefits. When you complete the fitness walk, you report will include an estimate of your fitness level. This will enable you to adjust your exercise routines to optimally increase your fitness.

  • Delay when unwell

    It is best to delay the measurement if you feel very ill, have a high fever or are due to have a COVID-19 vaccination. These will affect your measurement results.

  • Actively journal

    The journal information is confidential and keeping your journal is key to linking your daily context to your physiological state. Completing this accurately means you will gain more valuable insights from the lifestyle assessment.

Charging the battery

The battery of your Firstbeat LifeTM device lasts quite a while.

You can check the battery level by clicking on the Profile tab in the menu at the bottom of the screen and then selecting Measurement Device Settings (see image to the right). Note: in this menu you can also enable the night mode, which dims the flashing light at night!

The device is charging when the green LED light is flashing. The device is fully charged when the green LED light is on permanently (a full charge from empty take about t 1.5 hours).

Do not charge the device while it is attached to the electrodes and skin.

Starting a measurement

In the Firstbeat LifeTM app, select "Start new measurement" in the morning as soon as you wake up. Set the desired measurement duration*.

Attach the device as shown, with the electrodes provided, on clean and dry skin. Place the device under you right collarbone and the cord end on the left lower rib cage.

Depending on your focus, stay in your (new) normal routine as much as possible or experiement with new routines or practices to assess their impact!

Wear the device 24 hours a day, including when you sleep (but remove it when showering, swimming etc). Replace the electrodes daily.

*If you change your mind and want to shorten the measurement length you can select the "analyse measurement" option after the first 24 hours. If you want to lengthen the measurement, just keep going and select "analyse measurement" when you want to end the measurement. Note that only full 24-hour periods will be included in the results.

Fill in the journal

Fill in the journal

During the measurement, fill in the journal in the Firstbeat LifeTM app.

These notes increase the insights you gain from the results. They help you connect the dots between lifestyle routines and your health, wellbeing and performance. When you are experimenting with new routines or practices, completing the journal is particularly important.

Some medication and alchohol influence results and so include these in the journal.

PS: Don't forget to complete your fitness walk during most measurements. This will help you determine whether your fitness is trending up.

The app will indicate when your measurement is (100%) complete*.

Click the "analyse measurement" button to complete the measurement and produce your report.

The trend reporting in the Firstbeat LifeTM is a great way to track your progress. You can access your trend information by clicking the Results tab (bottom menu), following by the Show Trends option (top right of the screen).
